Hat Trick

It seems that fewer and fewer women don hats these days, which really is a pity.  There is a quiet sophistication about a lady in a hat.  Many people report not looking good in hats, but it’s more an issue of finding the right hat for you (similar to sunglasses, no?).  A hat is a nice way to complete an outfit, hide a bad hair day or find comfort on a windy cold day.  For whatever reason you wear them, think outside the box (or hat box in this case).  There are so many additions or alterations you can make to hats.  Pin on a brooch or add a ribbon; if you make the hat more reflective of your personality, you’ll likely feel more comfortable in it.

I’ve mentioned my undying love for the beret in earlier posts.  Berets are eternally chic, versatile and complement just about any outfit.  This twist on the beret has added texture and embellishment and makes the look pop.

Another style that was spotted on many Euro girls last fall was the wide brimmed fedora.  Similar to the regular fedora except the brim is a bit larger and the back is typically not folded up.  This is that hat the I've been eyeing for some time, and as soon as I find one in a camel tone, I'm all over it!  There's a certain mystique about a lady in this type of hat, paralleling the head scarf and large sunglasses look.  The idea is "I'm going incognito!"

There are also some versions of the style on Garance Dore's blog.

With the holiday season around the corner, there is quite a bit of fun we can have with hats.  The fascinator and turbans are cool toppers for a New Yewr's Eve dress.  Who new that feathers and mesh would be so great together?
